Raccoon Vase or Utensil Holder, Hand Painted in White Clay

Raccoon Vase or Utensil Holder, Hand Painted in White Clay

The is a raccoon hand painted in underglaze before the first firing. The front has melon colored polka dots. After that a clear glaze is added to the outside and the inside was glazed a melon matte. It could be used to hold flowers, succulents, pens, rings, change or just for display. It is just over 5 1/2 inches tall to the top of the head and 4 1/4 inches across. The opening is 3 inches in diameter. I have shown one photo with a soda can to give you an idea of the size.

Full disclosure on this piece. Sometimes things go wrong in the kiln and in this case, the inside glaze crawled so I cannot guarantee it is water safe. It could be used for dried flowers or utensils without problem, but I am putting it in my seconds category at a reduced price. The outside painting is perfectly fine, just the inside is a problem. I have shown one picture of the inside so you can see in advance what has happened.

This style of animal is made from a slab of clay and then rolled into a cylinder. A bottom is attached and then I alter it to form the body pushing out the sides and the lip of the vase. A face and sometimes tails are added. Some pieces have underglaze hand painted on the outside for detail and are clear glazed while others just get coated in colored glaze. I like them to be whimsical and fun so I tend to play loose with shapes and colors. No one piece is ever exactly like the next, so they are all original and one of a kind.

I believe in recycling all of my packaging materials as to save on waste. What is inside the box is really pretty but the outside might be a box and packing paper I have received from someone else. I try and double box all of my pieces as much as possible for protection so they will also be heavier than normal. Since everything I create is one of a kind, I try and keep it as safe as I can while it is traveling to its new home.
